About Café Jazz

I admit this music is much older than me. I’m twenty-one twenty-two, and probably one of the few who listen to jazz today, at least, speaking for my generation. This place is for me to continue my ongoing education with the music that I grew up with.

has always been a big part of my life – not because my family was composed of musicians, or that I went to a lot of gigs when I was little – but my first recollection of coming across a piece of real music was in my father’s living room, crouched among his old cassette tapes, rummaging through Ramsey Lewis and Spyro Gyra. Later on, through my own discovery, I would spend the first night I rebelled against my parents listening to Herbie Hancock. When I fell for someone much older than me for the first time I had Dave Brubeck in my stereo, and when we stayed up all night talking, John Coltrane played again and again. When I had one too many drinks all alone, I often smoked and listen to Chet Baker. When my dog died suddenly, I read poetry and put on Gershwin.

It’s not so much as what this kind of music can do, but what it can be. Here in my country, we hardly ever listen to jazz anymore. People have delegated it as elevator music, background music. But not here, in this site, at least.

If you wish to know more about what goes on in this site, hover to this page. If you wish to know more about me, I hope my lame attempt at an introduction will suffice.

Café Jazz is at best, a place to linger. You are welcome to join me. Perhaps over a cup of coffee, or a glass of dry martini, with some cigarettes and talk, we’ll be accompanied by the greatest music yet.
