The Jazz Cat (this July)

1. Do you plan on expanding this project into a website? I think it’d be pretty cool.

I think it’d be pretty cool, too :) I do have some plans, but I don’t know yet when I can be able to materialize them. But it’s in the works!

2. When will you ever use social networking buttons so I can send your stuff to the rest of the world?

Eh…I’m still trying to figure that one out. *scratches head*

3. Do you go to other websites? Read other blogs? Why don’t you have links?

Yes, I am a fan of other blogs. I’ll see if I can put up a links page or a blog roll for that.

4. Charles Mingus is a piano player. True or False.

True! In fact, I’m going to feature some of his works here, probably for the month of July or so, but I’m telling you, he plays the piano, too. And I know this because I own the album, Mingus Plays Piano :)

5. Happy anniversary! I’ve been a longtime reader of your blog. I think it’s great that someone young like you is listening to jazz. My own children don’t even know or understand what I’m listening to most of the time. And I listen to Miles Davis!

Times change, no? I also find it a little bit sad whenever some people today have no idea that jazz is one of the greatest music there is. Take my younger sisters, for example. All they listen to now is hip-hop and rap and dance. It’s frustrating sometimes to see the confused look on their faces whenever they’d go to my room and hear Billie Holiday in the background.

But I’m trying to introduce jazz to them little by little. I start with the more contemporary ones so they could relate to it better. And then I tell them stories like how some of the songs that they’ve taken a liking to was originally sung by this singer, and so on. I suggest you do the same to your family, I think that just might help :) On Sundays when people are mostly relaxing, reading a book, or during quiet lunches or dinners, you could put on some jazz to add to the ambiance. They might begin to appreciate it more then. Let me know how it turns out!

6. Please feature Roy Hargrove because he’s the best!

Thanks for the suggestion. I’ll try to get to them, and to the others I’ve added on the list! :) For newcomers, if you want your favorite jazz bands/artists to be featured here in this site, don’t hesitate to e-mail me at swing.sadie@yahoo.com, with the header, ATTN: Please feature…. If you also have interesting links concerning artists I’ve already featured, you can e-mail that to me as well. I’m generous with giving credit, so feel free to bug me with more jazz pursuits.

7. Some of the videos are no longer available.

If some links are no longer working, please kindly inform me by leaving a comment on that particular post. I will fix them as quickly as possible. Sometimes though the page just need to load again, so you might want to hit the refresh button :) Please note that none of the video content you see here are mine, I only link to those that I’ve found in the world wide web. So if the content is gone, so is my resource. But don’t fret! I’m a good researcher :)

8. Can I link to your blog?

Sure thing, that would be the greatest.

9. Where do you live? Do you have a jazz festival there?

I currently live in Manila, Philippines. Yes, we have some jazz festivals every once in a while, but it’s not as elaborate as other countries’. However, I recently found out that there is an existing jazz society here in my country, which is a pleasant surprise for me. All along I thought nothing of the sort exists. It’s a good thing, though, only quite embarrassing for me (so ignorant!) Anyway, all in good time, yes? I thank this blog for letting me discover things and then more things. :)

10. Who taught you all about jazz?

I thank my father for teaching me about jazz. In fact, I talked all about that here. It’s funny though, all those afternoons listening to old songs, old loves — my passion for jazz is ever expanding, and my father recently told me, ‘You already know so much, more than me. Now I’m learning from you.’
